Summer Recess & Summer Repairs
Dear Child Sponsor,

Summer recess from school is something most students and teachers look forward to and enjoy. Summer vacation allows time for rest and rejuvenation. It also provides a window of opportunity for summer mission teams to do facility maintenance and build needed classrooms.

HOLD the children works with Andrew and Rebecca Loveall to help poor children go to school at Escuela Integrada in Antigua, Guatemala. Life is very difficult in Guatemala, especially for children who are taught that education is secondary to helping support the family. The recent tropical storm, Agatha, has caused a lot of devastation in the communities where the many of the children live. Below is Andrew plea for help.

I can’t remember the last time I cried in public. A small part of me was embarrassed but a larger part of me didn‟t care. On Friday, April 16th my tears flowed. The story began years ago with an odd vision, then a wild dream and finally ends with orphans. How could my heart be broken to tears and yet overflow with joy?

Over the past several months we’ve been working to add classroom space at the HOLD sponsored school in LaVaud, Haiti. Our visit to the school last month revealed a serious problem, but it also demonstrated the staff’s commitment to education. Our contractor, Jacky Samuel, has been working on an addition to the school building to alleviate some extreme overcrowding. The plan was for the roof of the addition to be connected to the roof of the existing building; however the old roof collapsed in the process. Praise God, no one was around when the roof collapsed and there were no injuries.

Volunteers rallied to meet the needs of HOLD the Children's home in Port de Paix, Haiti. The end result?-A shipment of relief supplies has arrived in Port-de-Paix, Haiti. More than four tons of rice, beans, oatmeal, flour, sugar, corn meal and other food items, 75 mattresses, numerous plastic containers of medical supplies, personal care items, clothes and even toys. These items were desperately needed as occupancy of the HOLD orphanage grows. The orphanage started with eleven children in January; now there are twenty-three and it is expected the number will continue to grow.

What if, every Sunday your church walked out of the doors and in unison were singing the song you started in the building? That is the perfect description of the church in Haiti right now! I couldn't believe my eyes! I saw it first hand.
